Main risks and side effects

The following are common risks and side effects. How they appear and how long recovery takes vary from person to person. Please ask the doctor for details at your consultation.

Surgery (facelift, temple lift, eye surgery)

  • Swelling, bruising and pain will occur after surgery
  • Hematoma or infection may occur
  • Surgical scars will remain (incisions are placed where they are less noticeable)
  • Asymmetry or reduced sensation may occur
  • Facelift surgery may cause facial nerve injury (usually temporary)
  • Temporary hair loss may occur near the incisions of a temple lift or facelift
  • Lower eyelid surgery may cause ectropion (outward turning of the lower eyelid) or incomplete eyelid closure
  • Ptosis surgery may result in undercorrection or overcorrection

Thread lift

  • Swelling, bruising, pain or a pulling sensation may occur
  • Uneven skin surface, thread exposure or infection may occur
  • Thread migration, asymmetry, or dimpling when you make facial expressions may occur
  • The lifting effect gradually decreases over time

HIFU (Ultraformer MPT) and injections

Please see “Possible side effects” for each treatment on our Treatments page.

Fat grafting

  • Swelling, bruising and pain may occur at the injection site and the fat harvesting site
  • Part of the injected fat is absorbed, and additional injections may be needed
  • Lumps, uneven skin surface or asymmetry may occur
  • In rare cases, fat embolism may occur, leading to serious complications such as visual impairment
